Let’s be honest – when it comes to thinking about care in later life, most of us would rather not! It brings up uncomfortable questions: “Will I have to leave my home?”, “Can I afford it?”, “Will family still visit if they have to stay in a hotel?” At CI Home Care, we want you to know there’s an empowering option that’s often overlooked through lack of awareness or concern about cost – Live-in Care.

Live-in care means just that: a qualified, police-checked, compassionate Carer lives in your home to support you around the clock. Whether it’s help with dressing, personal care, preparing meals, attending appointments, or simply offering companionship and conversation, the beauty of live-in care is that it’s one-on-one, therefore tailored exclusively around you – or you and your spouse.

With live-in care, you wake when you please and take your time getting ready. The Carer doesn’t need to rush to the resident in the next room! You eat what you like, when you like. Keep the cat. Watch your favourite shows. And choose who you share your day with. Everything is done at your pace, in your own space.

Surprisingly, live-in care is often financially comparable to residential care – and for couples, it can be even more cost-effective than paying for two care home places. Better still, if you qualify for Jersey’s Long-Term Care (LTC) scheme, the same level of financial support is available whether you choose care at home or in a residential setting.

But the benefits go far beyond the practical. Staying in familiar surroundings promotes safety, confidence, and emotional wellbeing – especially for those living with dementia. Recent UK data shows that individuals receiving live-in care are less likely to suffer falls and more likely to maintain mobility and happiness. Daily routines can continue uninterrupted, favourite hobbies are easily maintained, and family life and contact continues with ease. Grandchildren can still stay over. Bedtime stories and shared breakfasts beat coffee shop catch-ups and care home restrictions any day.
