How thoughtful tweaks to your home and routine can transform your care
experience.
At CI Home Care, we know from experience that it’s not always the big interventions
that have the biggest impact. Sometimes, it’s the small, simple changes. Whether in
the home, to daily routines, or through the introduction of a bit of helpful equipment
that can make all the difference to someone’s independence, confidence and overall
wellbeing.
Whether you’re receiving care yourself or supporting a loved one, we’re here to help
identify those small adjustments that can transform daily life in meaningful ways.
A Fresh Perspective on Familiar Spaces
When we visit someone for the first time, it’s not uncommon to hear: “I’ve managed
like this for years”. And that’s perfectly understandable as home is personal, and
routines become second nature. But when mobility, vision or strength start to decline,
what once felt manageable can quickly become unsafe, uncomfortable, or even
impossible.
Often, a simple rethink of the space or layout can dramatically reduce effort or risk.
For example:
- Moving frequently used items like favourite mugs, medicines or clothes to
more accessible spots. - Repositioning furniture to widen walkways, avoid trip hazards or allow
easier access for wheelchairs or walking aids. - Installing grab rails near steps or in the bathroom for extra confidence.
- Rethinking lighting to make stairs or dim hallways safer.
None of these are dramatic changes but each one can remove a barrier to
independence or reduce the risk of a fall.
The Right Equipment at the Right Time
We sometimes meet clients struggling to manage tasks simply because they’re
unaware of what support or equipment is available or because they’ve put off asking
for help.
Simple aids like:
- A profiling bed can make all the difference to someone’s ability to sleep comfortably, sit up independently, or receive personal care with dignity.
- A commode chair or raised toilet seat can help someone maintain independence with toileting, especially during the night.
- A perching stool in the kitchen can enable someone to continue preparing their own meals without the risk of overexertion or dizziness.
- A bed lever can allow someone to get in and out of bed more easily without support, which is a significant boost to self-esteem and confidence.
Our Care Managers are trained to spot these opportunities and will always gently
offer suggestions if we believe something could make your day-to-day life easier or
safer.
Supporting Daily Life – Your Way
Small tweaks to how support is given can also make a big difference.
For example:
- Adjusting call times to better match energy levels or meal routines.
- Offering help with meal prep earlier in the day, so food can be easily reheated
later. - Helping with setting up video calls to keep in touch with family which is
particularly important for emotional wellbeing.
It’s all part of our person-centred approach. We work with you to make sure your
care works for you and not the other way around.
