When it comes to elderly care, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. For many, remaining in the comfort of their own home, surrounded by memories and able to maintain routines, is a key factor in maintaining quality of life. At CI Home Care, we believe in providing tailored support that encourages independence to the greatest extent possible, while offering the support, care and companionship our clients need. Today, we want to share two inspiring stories that highlight how personalised home care can truly transform lives.
From Hourly Care to Live-In Support: A 96-Year-Old’s Journey to Independence
For several years, we’ve been supporting a remarkable 97-year-old client with increasing levels of hourly care. She has always been very independent and enjoyed her own company. However, following a recent hospital stay, doctors advised that she could only be discharged into residential care. Both she and her next of kin knew that this would not be the right choice for her. This client had swiftly ended a trial enrollment to a day care centre that had been suggested when we first started hourly care! She cherishes her home and the peace and quiet if affords; forced company was just not “her thing”.
Understanding her concerns, we suggested live-in care with a carefully matched carer. The transformation has been a joy to see! Not only has she regained her confidence, but she has embraced life with renewed enthusiasm. She now enjoys regular trips to the hairdresser and chiropodist, rather than being restricted by their availability to make home calls. She has also rediscovered old hobbies – knitting projects that had been gathering dust are now being finished! Most importantly, she is enjoying the freedom to go out any day she chooses to her favourite spots, with the reassurance of dedicated, one-on-one support and the convenience of a live-in chauffeuse! Live-in care has enabled her to continue living life on her terms, proving that residential care is not the only option.
Rebuilding Strength And Confidence After A Fall
Another success story comes from an 82-year-old gentleman who suffered a serious fall at home. Initially, he was reluctant to accept care, feeling that doing so would mark a loss of independence. However, his family recognised that he needed support to regain his mobility and confidence. We introduced a personalised home care plan, starting with daily visits to encourage him to do his physiotherapy exercises, meal preparation, and general companionship.
Over time, the impact was profound. With the encouragement and support of our carers, he gradually regained his strength, and his confidence grew. Within weeks, he was not only moving more freely but also rediscovering his love for gardening, something he had feared he might never enjoy again. What’s more, by maintaining his routine at home, he was able to continue seeing friends and engaging in activities that brought him joy. Home care didn’t just support his recovery – it empowered him to maintain the life he loves.
The Power of Personalised Home Care
These stories are just two examples of how tailored, professional home care can make all the difference. Whether through hourly visits or live-in support, the right care can enable elderly individuals to continue living independently while receiving the assistance they need. At CI Home Care, we believe that choice, dignity, and quality of life should be considered equally alongside safety, risk management and all the other factors that go into planning excellent care.
